Shattered Heart

There is only so much

That a heart can take

Before it breaks

And shatters

Into a million pieces of glass

Scattered upon the ground

Where you broke it.

And when it breaks,

I hope you walk there often,

And that with each step

Taken on the space

Where my heart once rested,

A piece of the shattered glass

That once contained

My love for you

Cuts into your soul

The way it has cut into mine.

Let it remind you

Of the love I had for you,

That was so pure and true,

It would have

Moved heaven and earth

To be with you,

Only to be forsaken.

For the day

You walked out on me,

As I lay there

Gasping for breath on the bed

Where once we two had lain,

I knew that

My heart had shattered

In a silent scream

That only you could hear,

But chose to ignore.
